Raceline's 2011 Australian Pro Tour Series, launched out of the
blocks with round one at Parklands Showground on the Gold Coast and
it didn't disappoint the fans, at least not Josh Boettcher's fans.
Last year's title holder has no plans on stepping down from the top
of the podium, a position he has become all too familiar with.
Drifting is a progressive sport in Australia and it is literally
turning heads. This is a motor sport where the driver intentionally
over steers, causing loss of traction in the rear wheels through
turns, while maintaining vehicle control and a high exit speed.
Josh is maintaining control and maintaining the lead he set last
year, he is a true catalyst in the sport.
Like with all sports, to stay on top, a big productive off
season is needed, the foundation from the previous year is never
enough. This off season, Josh joined the Motul-Nismo team, built a
new Nissan 200SX, S15, with a 2.2L engine and fitted the vehicle
with wider GT Radial HPY tyres. Josh has tested other tyre brands
but remained loyal to GT for the third consecutive year, it has
become an integral part of his winning formula.
"Grip is required for control, speed, and a fast snap on the
initial entry. Drifting wears tires rapidly, sometimes utilising
several sets for a single professional event. I wouldn't replace my
tyres with anything less," said Boetcher.
Josh's sponsorship with Tyres4U and GT Radial, along with his world
class ability, has seen him selected to compete in Formula Drift
Singapore, on the 27-29 of May this year, the first round of
Formula Drift Asia. Josh is ecstatic to say the least, "competing
before a TV audience of 130 million in the region of the sports
inception, it's hard to comprehend."
And for the season back home on Australian soil. "This is the
beginning I have worked and hoped for, my team Motul-Nismo has had
the perfect start, to have my team mate and friend, Rob Whyte,
finish second right on my rear bumper, pushing me across the line,
we couldn't be happier."
The next round is at the Carnell Race Track at Stanthorpe on
April 10th.
