For the first time, the active safety performance of electric commercial vans has been assessed by ANCAP SAFETY in the latest round of Commercial Van Safety Comparison testing.
- Taking out a GOLD medal is the electric LDV eDeliver 7. The electric Mercedes-Benz eSprinter and eVito take a step higher on the podium with PLATINUM active safety performance.
- Mercedes-Benz’s diesel-powered siblings, Sprinter and Vito, together with the Ford Transit Custom also achieve PLATINUM scores. The diesel LDV Deliver 9 scored GOLD.

Access to national crash data will help strengthen vehicle safety

The Federal Budget released last night has solidified the Australian Government’s commitment to improve the collection and sharing of nationally-consistent road crash data - a commitment that ANCAP SAFETY applauds. The Australian Government has committed an investment of $21 million for improvements to its National Road Safety Data Hub which will consolidate road safety data from states and territories. In addition, the Australian Government plans to incorporate a provision in its road funding agreements with states and territories to create a requirement for the provision of a nationally-consistent road safety data set.

As Australia marks National Road Safety Week, the Australian Government has shown leadership in further prioritising the safety of its employees by implementing an enhancement to itsCommonwealth Fleet Vehicle Selection Policy. The policy, which establishes procurement criteria for Commonwealth Government fleet vehicles, requires vehicles to hold a five-star ANCAP safety rating and a datestamp within three years.

The all-hybrid line-up demonstrated solid safety performance assessed against 2023-2025 rating criteria, with the Toyota C-HR becoming the first model to be assigned a 2024 datestamp.

Four-star safety rating for Hyundai Kona

ANCAP SAFETY, Australasia's independent voice on vehicle safety, has today confirmed a four-star safety rating for the latest generation Hyundai Kona available in Australia and New Zealand.
Assessed against ANCAP's current 2023-2025 protocol criteria, the four-star safety rating applies to petrol, hybrid, and electric variants of the Hyundai Kona small SUV, with mixed levels of physical occupant protection, pedestrian protection and collision avoidance capability demonstrated in ANCAP's assessment.
