- World's most powerful diesel SUV arrives in Australia
- V12 TDI engine borne from Audi's winning Le Mans program
- New styling for all Q7 models
Audi's range-topping new Q7 performance SUV has arrived Down Under and heads up an entire range of newly-styled Q7 models for Australian customers.
The 1000Nm Audi Q7 V12 TDI is the most powerful diesel SUV on the road thanks to 1000Nm of torque, and 368kW of power.
Its 6.0-litre V12 TDI engine is related to the triple-Le Mans-winning Audi R10, clearly demonstrating the close link between the brand's road-going performance cars and its highly successful motorsport program.
This range-topping powerhouse heads up an even more elegant and more efficient range of 7-seat Q7 models which have arrived on Australian shores.
The Audi Q7 range remains sporty and comfortable – it is a high-performance vehicle for leisure and business. It is the ideal go-anywhere car designed for up to 7 adults and is roomy and flexible, with a high payload, huge luggage area of up to 2,035 litres and hefty towing capacity.
The compact side view, and the tautly curved body surfaces present a coupe-like silhouette and new accents at the front and rear contribute to elegant styling and revitalised visual impact. In conjunction with the xenon headlights (optional for V6 models), light-emitting diodes arranged to form U-shaped bands provide the daytime running lights.
The indicators are also composed of LEDs. Audi also features a high-end headlight version that integrates a low beam, high beam, and turning and cornering lights. The tailgate has been restyled and LEDs are standard equipment in the taillights.
Many improvements down to the smallest details enhance personal comfort – including inlays on the passenger side door, new colours, new wheels, and new materials. The driver looks at redesigned instruments – including the latest generation (gen 3) MMI Navigation system which is standard for V8 and V12 engines. Many operator-control details have been refined and enhanced with chrome elements.
There are four new exterior paint colours for the Q7 including Ibis White, Graphite Grey, Orca Black and Teak Brown, along with two additional RS-special paint colours for the new V12 TDI version – Mugello Blue and Daytona Grey.
All five engines in the Q7 range are powerful and efficient direct-injection versions. Standard equipment includes a six-speed tiptronic that shifts swiftly and smoothly as it transfers the generated power to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, which distributes it to the axles with modest emphasis on the rear.
In all V6 and V8 models Audi employs a new technology from its modular efficiency platform. The energy recovery system converts mechanical energy into electric energy during braking and coasting, and buffer-stores it in the battery. It reduces CO2 emissions by up to five grams per kilometre, an improvement that is even more significant in busy traffic.
The Q7 V12 TDI, which sits at the top of the range, has a 6.0-litre engine with a cylinder angle of 60 degrees and two turbochargers (one per cylinder bank), creating charge pressure of 2.7 bar, resulting in 1000Nm of torque from 1,750rpm to 3,250rpm.
Its sporty, sonorous sound reinforces its high-performance status – like any genuine sports car – as do the ceramic brakes, which are a standard feature for this model. The Q7 V12 TDI also boasts a striking single frame grille with chrome double-vertical struts, pronounced bumpers, flared wheel arches and prominent air inlets. Daytime running lights with 12 LED's complete the striking exterior look.
Inside, this sporty top model features an advanced leather package with decorative stitching on the dash, door rails, instrument panel, centre console, door arm rests and handles. The mighty Bang and Olufsen sound system is standard, with 14 active speakers and 1000 watts of output.
