With another record annual sales result within reach, GWM is already looking towards further growth in 2025 with the confirmation that several key new models will join the Australian lineup in the near future.
Additions across multiple powertrains including petrol, diesel, hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) and EV are included in GWM’s new model roadmap as the company commits to offering even greater choice for Aussie new car buyers.
A total of six new models are confirmed, at this stage, to be added in the first half of 2025 with several others under consideration for the latter half of 2025 and beyond.
- First, and scheduled for a Q1 release, is the new GWM Cannon ute which will add a larger 2.4 litre turbo diesel engine (as already available in its larger sibling, the Cannon Alpha) for increased power outputs of 135kW and 480Nm and a 3500kg towing capacity. The significantly upgraded Cannon (note: new GWM Cannon naming to replace GWM Ute) will also come with key design and functionality improvements including a new grille and lower front bumper, new wheel design and an updated interior that includes a completely reconfigured dash which incorporates a larger infotainment touchscreen and digital instrument cluster as well as adopting the aviation-style gear shift lever found on the Tank range.
- Also scheduled to join the GWM range in Q1 is the new Tank 300 Diesel. Also adopting the same 2.4 litre turbo diesel engine as the Cannon Alpha, the Tank 300 Diesel will deliver outputs of 135kW and 480Nm while providing a third Tank 300 powertrain option adding to the petrol and hybrid options already available.
- The H6GT will become the first GWM model in Australia to add Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) technology. To also be available in Q1, the H6GT PHEV will deliver pure EV driving range of up to 180km thanks to a 35.4kWh battery pack.
- Expected to be available in GWM dealerships from late Q1 or early Q2 is what will be GWM’s second PHEV model here in Australia, the Cannon Alpha Hi4T. Utilising GWM’s Hi4T Technology and adopting a 37.1kWh ternary lithium battery, the PHEV-powered Cannon Alpha offers up to 110km of pure EV driving range, even off-road and WLTP combined cycle fuel economy of just over 2 litres per 100km. With outputs of 300kW and 750Nm, the Cannon Alpha Hi4T offers 17% more power and 16% more torque than its hybrid sibling.
- Another expected addition in Q2 is the new Haval H6 which will come with a refreshed exterior design including new grille and rear tail-light design plus significant interior updates including a new centre console design, new steering wheel and a larger central infotainment touchscreen which will run GWM’s new generation operating system for a faster response and more intuitive controls. The 2.0-litre petrol engine will be joined by a hybrid option and, very likely, a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) option too.
- And last but certainly not least, GWM has recently completed local homologation for the Haval H7 mid-sized SUV, which remains in the company’s plans for a Q2 release in Australia. Designed to sit between the family-oriented Haval H6 SUV and the off-road focussed Tank 300, the H7 provides another option for medium SUV buyers who are looking for something a little different. The H7 is also known as the Big Dog or Dargo in overseas markets although the final naming for Australia has yet to be confirmed.
GWM will disclose further information on each of these models, including more detailed specifications, grade line-up and pricing closer to launch
Beyond these models confirmed for launch, GWM has already also confirmed that it is working on local plans for the introduction of the Tank 500 Hi4T PHEV. The Ora Sport EV remains under consideration and with right-hand drive production now underway, further details on a potential Australian launch can be expected to be confirmed in the coming months.
Two-thirds of the way through 2024, GWM remains on record pace in Australia with sales up 21.8% YTD against a market increase of just 5.3%. GWM’s 2024 Australian sales are forecast to top 40,000 for the first time.
The GWM brand currently sells 8 models across the Haval SUV, Tank 4x4, Ora EV and GWM Ute ranges via its network of 107 dealers nationally.
