- Volkswagen appointed preferred supplier to new ridesharing platform, UniCar®
- Pilot program to run on the Gold Coast during the 2018 Commonwealth Games
Volkswagen Australia has today announced its entrance into ride-sharing with a partnership with new ride-sharing platform, UniCar®, having been appointed a preferred vehicle supplier to the business.
As part of this agreement, UniCar® will come to offer vehicles from the Volkswagen range to customers and drivers; with an initial pilot program to commence this week in the Gold Coast, during the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Volkswagen Managing Director, Michael Bartsch, spoke of the value of the partnership.
"Ridesharing is but one facet of the way our industry is changing, as brands transition from being simply manufacturers and sellers of cars, to be able to offer a wide range of personal mobility solutions," he said.
"Partnering with UniCar is a great first step as we continue to evolve to the industry and business needs of the future."
Initially utilising 16 Volkswagen vehicles for the Gold Coast-based pilot throughout April, the partnership will extend to offering a wider fleet of vehicles in the coming months.
