Hot on the heels of his birthday this month, Subaru Rally Team Australia Group N Champion Cody Crocker is getting a new generation Impreza WRX to drive at Rally Australia in Perth next week.
For the last fortnight Possum Bourne Motorsports in New Zealand have worked two 12-hour shifts a day to prepare Cody’s car in time for Australia’s round of the World Rally Championship, starting November 1 in Perth.
The car was flown direct from Auckland to Perth on Wednesday and final tuning took place yesterday at new Perth dealership Peel Subaru, Mandurah, which has a state-of-the-art All-Wheel Drive dyno.
Cody will test the new car for the first time today and tomorrow, at a secret location near Perth.
He said: “The guys have worked non-stop to make this happen and I can’t thank them enough.
“It’s great to have some extra time to give the car a shakedown in WA before the real action starts next week. We’ve got a little time to fine-tune and check the set-up before the rally begins next Thursday night.”
But the team is still battling the clock as they are still awaiting some parts that will not arrive from Japan until mid-next week.
Meanwhile, 2001 Australian Rally Champion Possum Bourne will also test over the weekend.
He said: “Both Cody and I are clearly focused on getting the Manufacturers title for Subaru. That’s our main objective over here and we won’t relax until we’ve achieved it.”
