The BMW S 1000 XR has been awarded the prestigious Australian Motorcycle News 2015 Motorcycle of the Year.

This is the fourth successive year that BMW has taken out Australia's top motorcycle award. The S 1000 XR follows on from the success of the S 1000 RR, R 1200 GS and the S 1000 R.

The award is judged on excellence in technology, design, finish quality, attention to detail and value for money as well as the bike's relative effectiveness at meeting the needs of its target market.

The S 1000 XR, with its Quickshift Pro, ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control, Electronic Suspension Adjustment, Cruise Control, heated grips and relaxed riding position, excelled in all aspects and excited the AMCN judges.

The publication said: "what the XR has given to motorcycling is very nearly the ultimate high-performance real-world road bike. If there is anything to criticize about the XR is that is too good.

Some highlight quotes from the feature article include:

  • "Concentrate on the road and appreciate the ease at which the XR explores every inch of tarmac, from white line to white line almost instinctively and with superfluous control. Fast road riding just got faster and easier, while at the same time also safer. An amazing achievement, which has to be experienced to be believed."
  • "The S 1000 XR is the epitome of how technology can advance the road-riding experience, and make it relevant and available to the widest range of motorcyclists. If you don't believe it, you haven't tried it."

General Manager BMW Motorrad Australia, Tony Sesto, was delighted with the XR's success in the annual award.

"To win the AMCN Motorcycle of The Year is a fantastic achievement. The XR is a great motorcycle with technology and dynamic performance that blends perfectly into real world riding," Sesto said.
