Australia, July 12, 2017 – The successor to one of the most popular Audi performance models ever has arrived in Australia – the all-new second-generation Audi SQ5.
"The first Audi SQ5 met incredible demand when it first arrived in Australia in 2013," said Paul Sansom, Managing Director of Audi Australia.
"The combination of performance and practicality offered by the Audi SQ5 was peerless, and unprecedented, and saw it become the best-selling Q5 variant for many months during its lifetime. Australian families saw it as the ideal vehicle for a premium lifestyle, with a love of performance, and the versatility that only an SUV can offer.
"The new Audi SQ5 is much lighter, more powerful and is packed with innovative new infotainment, connectivity and driver assistance safety features, which will hold in excellent stead with the same Australian audience that its predecessor appealed to," said Mr Sansom.
Besides the more angular, sculpted design that it shares with the wider Q5 range, the new SQ5 is an extraordinary 130kg lighter than its predecessor, thanks to the intelligent use of lightweight materials in the all-new engine and throughout the body.
The 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine in the SQ5 is an all-new design from the ground up. The new engine produces 260kW (up 20kW), while peak torque of 500Nm is available from as low as 1370rpm. Such spontaneous response is aided by the twin-scroll turbocharger's location inside the 90-degree vee, which ensures the shortest possible travel paths for exhaust gases to pass through.
Efficiency is also assured, at just 8.7 L/100km, thanks in part to its clever B-cycle combustion method.
Matched to the fast-shifting eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission and the legendary Audi quattro all-wheel drive technology, the all-new SQ5 can reach 100km/h in just 5.4sec.
At the heart of the quattro all-wheel-drive system sits a mechanical centre differential. Under normal driving conditions, the differential splits the engine's torque 40/60 front/rear, however up to 85 percent can be directed to either end if slip occurs, while the optional sport differential can apportion even more torque to the rear wheel with the most grip. This effectively 'points' the car towards the apex of a corner.
This quattro system is the perfect partner for the newly developed five-link front and rear suspensions, further complemented by the standard adaptive dampers that can cater for a comfortable ride, dynamic handling and everything in between via the Audi drive select system. The brake system is suitably powerful, with 350mm ventilated front discs clamped by 6-piston calipers, and 330mm discs at the rear.
The all-new Audi SQ5 has been awarded a 5-star EuroNCAP and ANCAP safety rating, thanks to an impressive array of standard safety features on all models. These include:
- Audi pre-sense city with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and pedestrian detection (up to 85 km/h)
- Exit Warning system
- Cross traffic assist
- Audi side assist blind spot warning system
- Audi pre-sense basic (belt tensioning, window closing and other preventative measures if an emergency is detected)
- Audi pre-sense rear (warns following traffic if they are at risk of running into the rear of the car)
- Parking system plus with 360-degree surround- and rear-view camera
- Adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go
- Turn assist
- Audi pre-sense front (collision warning up to 250km/h)
- Predictive efficiency assistant
- High-beam assist
- Surround-view 360-degree parking camera
- Park assist
The all-new Audi SQ5 represents a huge step forward in the field of progressive technology, compared to its predecessor. In the areas of infotainment and connectivity, the new SQ5 is the benchmark in the premium segment.
MMI Navigation plus with MMI touch, a 8.3-inch high-resolution screen, DVD player with 2x SDXC card readers, 3D maps, live traffic info and natural voice recognition for handsfree control are all standard. In addition, every SQ5 comes equipped with Audi Connect, which enables a high-speed 4G LTE connection via a regular data SIM card, as well as Google Earth and Google Search functionality. Audi smartphone interface allows connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The all-new Audi SQ5 offers an additional 10 litres of luggage space in comparison with its predecessor, meaning between 550-610 litres of space is available, depending on how the sliding rear seat bench is positioned. With the seats folded, a capacious 1550 litres of luggage space is available.
The all-new Audi SQ5 comes standard with an electric tailgate, activated by a sensor-controlled 'kick motion'. A myriad of Audi options and genuine accessories are also available to allow owners to integrate their active lifestyle with their SQ5, like a luggage-securing kit with load rails in the boot floor, bike racks, a kayak holder, aerodynamic roof box and many others.
The excellent customer value proposition that the original Audi SQ5 offered was one of the key reasons behind its success, and the list of standard equipment is further extended in the new generation. Some highlights include:
- Exclusive SQ5 styling package, inside and out
- 21-inch alloy wheels, with red-painted brake calipers at the front
- Adaptive LED headlights with dynamic rear indicators
- Sports seats, in fine Nappa Leather
- Audi virtual cockpit 12.3-inch high-resolution dash, with specific 'S' mode
- Privacy glass and acoustic glazing
In addition to the generous standard equipment list, a high-value Technik package is available to customers who wish to personalise their new SQ5 to best suit their own priorities.
